Circuit
Autodromo Velo Citta is a permanent racing circuit set on private land in the municipality of Mogi Guacu, in the interior of Sao Paulo state, Brazil, roughly 180 km north of the state capital. Conceived by Edoardo Souza Ramos, the Brazilian Mitsubishi importer, the project broke ground in 2010 after a lengthy approval process and the full layout was inaugurated in June 2012. The circuit was designed as a modular venue, with a longer full circuit that can be subdivided into shorter West and East loops for club racing, testing and manufacturer events. Its character is that of a flat-to-undulating, mostly medium- and low-speed track that rewards precision over outright top speed, with around 45 metres of elevation change across the lap. Velo Citta earned FIA homologation in 2013, becoming one of only a handful of Brazilian tracks so certified, before later reverting to national homologation. In 2015 the layout was revised with the new Caipirinha and Ferradura sequences to make it faster and more challenging for professional competition. Today it is a fixture of the Brazilian national racing calendar, hosting rounds of the Stock Car Pro Series, Stock Light, F4 Brazil, the Porsche Cup Brasil and NASCAR Brasil Series, and from 2022 the TCR South America championship. A distinctive and much-photographed feature is the set of cartoon chimpanzee signs above the braking-zone marker boards, which grow visibly more anxious the closer each corner approaches and have become a trademark of the venue.
