Circuit
The Circuit du Val de Vienne sits at Le Vigeant in the rural country of western-central France, roughly 58 km south of Poitiers and 83 km from Limoges. Built by the Pays Montmorillonnais with backing from several local authorities, it opened in 1990 and quickly established itself as a fixture of the national racing calendar, drawing the French Supertouring Championship in 1992 and French Superbikes soon after. The circuit has long been prized as a tight, technical venue, with a sequence of slow and medium-speed corners that reward precision over outright power. A significant 2008 reworking replaced the old 'pif-paf' chicane with a long sweeping curve, opening up a fast run from Trop Vite down to the widened Le Buisson corner and earning the track FIA Grade 2 homologation that it held until the end of 2021. The final turn was also tightened and a new pit-lane entrance added at the same time. Four layout variations are possible, two of which can run simultaneously. Since January 2012 the circuit has been operated on a 20-year lease by the Les Deux Arbres group, led by Larbre Racing's Jack Leconte and OAK Racing's Jacques Nicolet, who launched a multi-year programme to modernise its facilities including a 32-camera HD control room. Today its busy calendar takes in superbikes, a round of the French GT championship, touring cars and a Ferrari meeting, and the site is home to its own driving school.
