Drag Strip

Summit Motorsports Park is a quarter-mile drag racing facility located on State Route 18 near Norwalk, Ohio. The strip opened as Norwalk Dragway in 1963 but lay largely dormant for its first decade, with Goodyear briefly using it for tire testing before Bill Bader took sole ownership and reopened it in 1974. Operating as Norwalk Raceway Park, it became the flagship venue of the International Hot Rod Association, hosting the IHRA World Nationals from 1981 through 2006. In 2007 automotive parts company Summit Racing Equipment bought the facility's naming rights, and after major upgrades the park made its NHRA debut, taking over the national event that became the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. The concrete strip measures a quarter mile and the venue seats around 40,000 spectators. It was the site of the last NHRA national event to run the nitromethane classes to the full 1,320 feet in 2008, after which those classes were shortened to 1,000 feet for safety. Alongside its NHRA national event and the regional Cavalcade of Stars, the park is well known for its annual Night Under Fire show and hosts regular local competition throughout the season.
