Hill Climb

The Subida al Fito is a Spanish mountain hillclimb held annually in Asturias since 1970, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious events of its kind in Europe. The roughly 5.35 km timed course climbs the AS-260 road from near Arriondas (in the municipality of Parres) up the flanks of the Sueve massif towards the Mirador del Fito viewpoint, a scenic overlook above the Bay of Biscay. Technical and selective, the route mixes fast sections with tightly twisting bends, and its difficulty is often sharpened by the changeable coastal weather of the region. The climb is a long-standing round of the Campeonato de Espana de Montana (Spanish Hill Climb Championship) and is the only Spanish event counting towards the FIA European Hill Climb Championship, drawing entrants from across the continent. Competitors tackle the ascent in a series of timed runs over the weekend, with combined or best times deciding the overall and class winners. Held each spring, the event remains a highlight of Asturian motorsport, blending decades of tradition with international single-seater, sports and touring machinery.
