Circuit

Snetterton Circuit is a permanent road course in rural Norfolk, built on the former wartime airfield RAF Snetterton Heath, which opened in 1943 as a base for American B-17 bomber crews before enthusiasts began racing on its runways and perimeter roads in 1951. The early 2.71-mile layout, marked out in its first seasons by oil drums topped with Christmas trees, was repeatedly shortened and reshaped under a succession of owners, including Grovewood Securities, before the circuit joined Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision group in 2004. A multi-million-pound redevelopment completed in 2011 added a new infield section and created the three configurations run today: the 300 Circuit (about three miles), the 200 Circuit (about two miles) and the 100 Circuit (about one mile), with the 100 and 200 able to run simultaneously. The 300 layout blends fast straights with a technical infield sequence and is used for the circuit's major national meetings, with distinctive corners including the opening Riches, the Montreal-inspired hairpin, the long Coram curve and the closing Murrays, and the venue is noted for spectator viewing from its raised banks. Snetterton hosts the British Touring Car Championship, British Superbikes and British GT each year alongside extensive club racing, testing and track days.
