Circuit
Silverstone Circuit straddles the Northamptonshire-Buckinghamshire border in central England, built from 1948 on the runways and perimeter roads of the former RAF Silverstone bomber-training base by the Royal Automobile Club. It earned a lasting place in motorsport history in May 1950 by hosting the first round of the Formula One World Championship, won by Giuseppe Farina for Alfa Romeo, and has held the British Grand Prix every year since 1987. The Grand Prix layout has been reshaped repeatedly, notably with the Woodcote chicane added in 1975 after a major first-lap accident in 1973, the high-speed Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel sequence introduced in 1991, and a 2010 reconfiguration that added the infield Arena section and a new pit and paddock complex. Alongside the full Grand Prix circuit, Silverstone offers the shorter National, International, Club and Stowe layouts, the last used mainly for driving experiences and vehicle testing rather than racing, plus a separate karting circuit, Kart Silverstone, with five configurations. The circuit is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club and today hosts the British round of MotoGP, the British Touring Car Championship and British GT alongside the historic Silverstone Classic, and houses the Silverstone Experience museum and Formula One teams including Aston Martin.
