Circuit
Shanghai International Circuit is located in the Jiading district on the northern outskirts of Shanghai, China, and was designed by German architect Hermann Tilke. Built on reclaimed marshland that required extensive ground engineering to support, the circuit opened in 2004 and immediately hosted the first Chinese Grand Prix. Its layout was reportedly inspired by the shang character of the city's name, and it is best known for an extraordinary opening sequence: a tightening, snail-shell-like complex of turns 1 to 4 that spirals inward before opening out again, mirrored later by a second coiled complex at turns 11 to 13. The lap also features a very long back straight leading into a tight hairpin, creating one of the circuit's main overtaking points. Measuring 5.451 kilometres with sixteen turns, it was among the most expensive circuits ever constructed at the time. The venue hosted the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix from 2004, becoming a regular fixture before contractual and pandemic-related gaps, and has also staged sportscar and touring car events. Its huge main grandstand and futuristic pit and paddock buildings were intended as a statement of China's arrival on the international motorsport stage. The circuit holds an FIA Grade 1 licence for its Grand Prix configuration.

Full FIA Grade 1 circuit. Distinctive snail-shaped sector 3, a long straight (Turn 14 into Turn 16) and the sweeping T1-2 horseshoe. Very good overtaking opportunities.
