Circuit
Riverside International Speedway is a 0.333 mi (0.536 km), high banked, asphalt short track located in James River, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was conceived by Antigonish businessman John Chisholm, who modeled it after a scaled-down version of Bristol Motor Speedway after meeting with NASCAR co-founder Bill France Sr. in 1967. Construction began in 1968 and the speedway opened its doors on May 18, 1969. In 1975, it hosted its first celebrity driver, Benny Parsons, for a NASCAR Canada series race, marking the first time a major stock car driver competed in the region. This race also featured a purse of $7500, the largest in the region at that time. The track came under new promoters in 1977.
