Hill Climb
The Rechbergrennen is a hillclimb staged in the Grazer Bergland of Styria, eastern Austria, where competitors charge up Federal Road B64 from the valley near Sankt Radegund, Tulwitz and Semriach toward the Rechberg pass at roughly 929 metres above sea level. First run on 10 September 1972 with a mixed field of motorcycles, sidecars and cars, it has grown into one of the country's signature motorsport occasions, organised by the Motorsportclub Mürztal. Since the early 1980s the event has counted toward the FIA European Hill Climb Championship, and it also forms a round of the FIA Historic Hill Climb Championship and the Austrian national hillclimb series, drawing entries from across Europe. For decades the course measured about 5.05 kilometres with a climb of some 268 metres, making it the longest hillclimb still in regular use in Austria; from 2024 the run was trimmed to roughly 4.44 kilometres. Famous for huge galleries that can swell to around 30,000 spectators over the weekend, it ranks among the best-attended hillclimbs on the continent. The outright track record of 1:50.876 was set by Italy's Christian Merli in an Osella FA30 in 2019 at an average of nearly 164 km/h.
