Circuit

The Putrajaya Street Circuit wound through the boulevards of Putrajaya, Malaysia's purpose-built administrative capital south of Kuala Lumpur, and hosted the country's round of the FIA Formula E Championship. Centred on the wide Persiaran Perdana boulevard close to the Prime Minister's office, the temporary circuit showcased one of Malaysia's newest and most modern planned cities. Designed by British architect Simon Gibbons, the layout passed landmark government buildings and crossed a section of bridge, with the sail-shaped Seri Wawasan Bridge forming a backdrop to the hairpin. Relatively short and fast at around 2.56 kilometres, it mixed straights, slow-to-medium corners, a hairpin and a tight first-corner chicane, with the hot and humid weather posing the biggest challenge for drivers and cars. The circuit was listed with twelve corners for its 2014 debut, rising to fourteen the following year under revised FIA corner-counting rules. Sam Bird won the first race in November 2014, with Lucas di Grassi taking a dramatic second running a year later. After just two events, Putrajaya was quietly dropped from the calendar and never returned.
