Circuit
Pikes Peak International Raceway is a one-mile D-shaped paved oval near Fountain, Colorado, roughly 20 miles south of Colorado Springs against a Rocky Mountain backdrop. Built on the site of the former Pikes Peak Meadows horse track, the facility was developed by California contractor C.C. Myers and opened in 1997, with its asphalt surface laid about six feet below ground level to produce one of the smoothest tracks in North America. The low banking and exceptionally smooth surface earned it a reputation as the fastest one-mile paved oval anywhere, and Tony Stewart famously likened racing there to driving on a billiard table. The venue hosted IndyCar racing from 1997 to 2005 alongside NASCAR's Busch and Craftsman Truck Series and several regional touring divisions. Professional racing operations were suspended in 2005, and when the track was sold to its current ownership in 2008 a clause prohibiting sanctioned professional racing left it serving as a grassroots and participant-focused venue. In addition to the main oval, the complex offers a road course of roughly 1.3 miles with nine turns and a quarter-mile short oval. In 2026 it was announced that the season would be the track's last, with the property earmarked for mixed-use redevelopment.
