Circuit
The Circuit Jules Tacheny lies just south of the town of Mettet in Wallonia, Belgium, around 20 kilometres south-east of Charleroi. It is the modern expression of a racing tradition stretching back to the 1920s, when enthusiasts of the Union Motor de l'Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, guided by Jules Tacheny, began organising races on public roads around the town. For decades the famous 'diablo' road course hosted the Grand Prix de l'Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse and drew motorcycling greats such as John Surtees, Giacomo Agostini and Geoff Duke to its fast, tree-lined straights. Mounting safety concerns eventually ended road racing, and a new permanent infield circuit was announced in 2007 and officially opened as the Circuit Jules Tacheny in 2010. Short and twisty, the modern course is named after the local rider and long-serving club president and meets contemporary safety standards. It became only the fourth permanent circuit built in Belgium and remains one of just a handful still operating. Motorcycles are still the mainstay of its events, supported by car racing on a slightly revised layout, plus SuperMoto and Rallycross facilities. Regular visitors have included the VW Fun Cup and the TCR Benelux touring car series.
