Hill Climb

Wyścig Górski Limanowa - Przełęcz pod Ostrą is a Polish hillclimb staged on a closed stretch of county road K1609 (Limanowa-Kamienica) in southern Poland's Małopolska region, climbing from the Stara Wieś district of Limanowa up to the Przełęcz pod Ostrą mountain pass. Run by Auto Moto Klub Limanowa, the meeting has been held since 2009 and quickly became a fixture of the Polish Mountain Car Championship (GSMP). From 2014 it gained full status as a round of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship, drawing top single-seater and sports-prototype crews from across the continent. To meet championship requirements the course was trimmed from its original 6,031 m to 5,493 m, gaining an average gradient of around 5.5% over its many bends as it rises from roughly 498 m to 800 m of elevation. The outright record stands to Italian hillclimb specialist Christian Merli, who in 2017 covered the climb in 1:53.546 in an Osella prototype at an average of over 174 km/h. Recent editions have grown into a major regional motorsport festival, attracting tens of thousands of spectators to the hillside.
