FDM Jyllands-Ringen is a permanent racing circuit at Resenbro, near Silkeborg in central Denmark, and has been the heart of Danish motor racing since the 1960s. It was built in 1966 by contractor SK Jensen together with racing driver Ole Hansen, opening with its first meeting on 15 May that year. The tight, switchback-heavy original layout drew early criticism for being too twisty, prompting a 1967 revision that bypassed one of the infield loops to create the shorter, slightly quicker course still in use today. After Jensen's death in an accident in 1974, his widow sold the circuit to the Federation of Danish Motorists (FDM), which added driver training to the venue's activities and helped it survive the fuel crisis. Over the decades the track has launched many careers, with the likes of Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Tom Kristensen and JJ Lehto racing in its junior single-seater events. A major extension in 2003, championed by touring car organiser Peter Elgaard, linked the existing circuit to part of the adjacent driver-training facility to create Denmark's longest track at 2.300 km over 16 turns, holding an FIA Grade 4 licence. It has long been the centre of Danish touring car racing, hosting the Danish Touringcar Championship, the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and later the Danish Thundersport Championship. More recently it has staged TCR Denmark, Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and the Nordic 4 series. It also held rounds of the European Formula 5000 Championship in 1973 and the Danish Grand Prix.
