Circuit

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is a high-speed street course laid out along the Red Sea waterfront in the Corniche district, roughly 12 km north of the centre of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Confirmed in late 2020 and built in barely eight months by thousands of contractors, it staged its first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in December 2021 and has hosted the race annually since, becoming Formula One's first venue in the country. Developed by Tilke and Formula 1's in-house motorsport team under Ross Brawn, it was conceived as a street circuit unlike any other, packing 27 corners into a 6.175 km lap yet running almost flat out for much of its length, which makes it both the second-longest and the fastest street circuit on the calendar, with average speeds approaching 245 km/h. The track skirts the sea and wraps around a lagoon, racing under floodlights, and its narrow, wall-lined, often blind fast corners drew immediate safety concerns from drivers after a chaotic debut weekend marked by stoppages and crashes. In response the promoter adjusted barriers and sight lines at several corners, including Turns 2, 3, 14, 21 and 27, ahead of the 2022 return. For the 2022 FIA World Touring Car Cup finale a shorter 3.450 km, 12-turn variant was created by connecting Turn 4 to Turn 20. The original March 2021 race used effectively the same Grand Prix layout as the later configurations.
