Circuit
Holjesbanan, also known as Holjes Motorstadion, is a rallycross circuit in the tiny village of Holjes in the Finnskogen woodlands of Varmland county, in northern Sweden close to the Norwegian border and beside the river Klaralven. The site began as a go-kart centre opened in 1972 by the Finnskoga Motorklubb, but it soon fell into disuse and a nearby gravel pit was converted into a rallycross track, which held its first event on 1 February 1976. Roughly 1.21 km long and mixing asphalt and gravel surfaces, the circuit is regarded as one of the most famous rallycross venues in the world, noted for its iconic spectator jump and a corner known as the Velodrome. Originally a gravel course, it was changed to tarmac after 1991 while keeping its distinctive character. The circuit made its international debut in the 1991 European Rallycross Championship and became a permanent fixture from 1999, traditionally hosting its event over the first weekend of July in what is dubbed the rallycross 'Magic Weekend'. It staged the World RX of Sweden in the FIA World Rallycross Championship between 2014 and 2025 and continues to host the European championship's Swedish round. Despite the village having only around 80 inhabitants, the event regularly draws tens of thousands of spectators, with attendance records exceeding 45,000.
