Hill Climb

Doune is widely regarded as Scotland's premier speed hillclimb and the only Scottish venue on the British Hill Climb Championship calendar. It sits in the wooded grounds of the Carse of Cambus, just outside the village of Doune in Stirling. Run by the Lothian Car Club, the course replaced the club's earlier home at Bo'ness, which closed in 1967 after housing was built across part of the track. Laid out by designer Ray Fielding, the new hill held its first event in April 1968 and was formally opened that June by Raymond Mays. The smooth, tree-lined ribbon of tarmac climbs roughly 1,350 metres, a length settled since the late 1970s after the start was repositioned in its early years. Resurfaced in 1992 and improved with a new paddock and ring road around the turn of the century, Doune hosts two British Championship rounds plus several Scottish Championship meetings each season. The outright hill record stands at 34.21 seconds, set by Alex Summers in June 2022, a benchmark that has tumbled steadily from the 48.84 seconds first recorded in 1968.
