Circuit
Circuit Italia is a permanent motorsport circuit at Balickera, near Port Stephens in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, taking its name from its address on Italia Road. Planning began in 2013 alongside the existing Ringwood Motor Racing Complex, and local businessman Matthew Higgins committed around AU$12 million to the project in July 2016. Construction started in 2017 but stalled at roughly 30 percent completion before work resumed with asphalt laying in July 2023. After barriers were installed through to early 2024, the venue finally opened on 25 June 2025 with a track day hosted by racing driver David Russell. The circuit runs clockwise over 3.1 kilometres through 15 corners and packs in nearly 34 metres of elevation change, making it one of the most undulating and technically demanding tracks in the country. Among its signature features are a steep crest at Turn 10 and a 350-metre run up to Turn 6 that climbs some 20 metres. The circuit is managed by Damien White, who oversees its promotion and events, and it was even floated as a possible alternative venue for the Newcastle 500. As one of Australia's newest permanent circuits, it has been built with track days, club competition and driver development in mind.
