Circuit

Mike Pero Motorsport Park, more traditionally known as Ruapuna Park, is a permanent circuit at Templeton, around 13 km north-west of Christchurch on New Zealand's South Island. It is one of the few remaining club-owned tracks in the country, owned and operated by the Canterbury Car Club on land leased from the Christchurch City Council and designated a motorsport reserve. The circuit opened in November 1963 as a simple sealed road course of about a mile, essentially a flat tri-oval with an extended main straight leading to a hairpin, a year after the adjacent Christchurch Speedway dirt oval was established. Drag racing facilities were added from the mid-1970s, using the main straight in the opposite direction, and clubrooms and grandstands named after Chris Amon, Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme were built in the 1980s. The most significant change came in 1993 when the track was extended to its current 3.3 km Grand Prix layout, accompanied by garages, a control tower and modern timing facilities. The main circuit held an FIA Grade 3 licence until it lapsed in 2022, while shorter variants carry national grades. The park has carried several sponsor names over the years, including Powerbuilt, Mike Pero from 2013, and Euromarque from 2023. It hosts a busy calendar of car, motorcycle, drag and drift events, and gained wider fame when it was digitised for the Project CARS racing game in 2015.
