Circuit
Buriram International Circuit, commercially branded the Chang International Circuit, sits on the southern edge of the city of Buriram in north-eastern Thailand, roughly 400 kilometres from Bangkok and adjacent to the Buriram United football stadium. Construction of the venue began in March 2013 to a masterplan by German designer Hermann Tilke, and the track was inaugurated over the weekend of 4-5 October 2014. It was conceived to the highest FIA and FIM standards and became the first FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A facility in Thailand, complete with floodlighting for night racing. A distinctive feature is the placement of the pit garages beneath the main grandstand, leaving the imposing 50,000-seat structure with an unobstructed view of the action. The Grand Prix layout runs to 4.554 kilometres across twelve turns, with the long sixth-gear approach into the Turn 3 hairpin among its signature challenges. The circuit first drew international attention by hosting the World Superbike Championship from 2015, before stepping up to welcome the MotoGP World Championship and the Thailand motorcycle Grand Prix, secured on a contract running until at least 2031. Beyond two wheels, the venue has staged the Asian Le Mans Series, Formula 3 Asia, TCR International, the FIA World Touring Car Championship and Japan's Super GT series. Several alternative configurations allow shorter circuits to operate simultaneously, and two ornamental ponds help manage the humid local climate. Together these elements have helped propel Thailand onto the international motorsport stage for the first time.
