Circuit
The Brooklyn Street Circuit was a temporary street course in the Red Hook neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York, laid out around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and the Atlantic Basin on the borough's western waterfront. It was created for the New York City E-Prix of the all-electric Formula E championship, the first international car race held in the city in decades. City and FIA officials confirmed the Red Hook location in September 2016, choosing it over options such as Governors Island, Central Park and Liberty State Park; the race was approved largely because the electric cars produced no significant noise or air pollution. The inaugural event ran on 15-16 July 2017, with Sam Bird of DS Virgin Racing sweeping both races. The original 2017 layout measured about 1.96 km over 13 corners, following the terminal's streets and parking areas with views across to the Lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. For 2018 the track was lengthened and reconfigured to roughly 2.37 km with 14 turns to suit the more powerful second-generation cars, and it was tweaked again to about 2.32 km for the 2021-2022 races. The circuit also hosted the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy support series in 2019, and held its final Formula E races in July 2022.
