Sprint Course

Bentwaters Park is a sprint venue laid out on the runways and perimeter roads of a former military airfield in the Suffolk countryside near Woodbridge, a few miles east of Ipswich. Built during the Second World War and opened in 1944 as an RAF fighter station, the base spent most of the Cold War as a frontline United States Air Force installation, home to the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing flying types from the F-86 Sabre through the A-10 Thunderbolt II until the Americans withdrew and the airfield closed in 1993. The cleared concrete now hosts East Anglian club motorsport, with timed single-car sprints run against the clock over a technical course that mixes long airfield straights with tighter linking bends and generous tarmac run-off. The site, today branded Bentwaters Parks, is also widely used for film and television production and houses a Cold War museum, with the open expanses lending themselves to occasional stage-rally and speed-event use by regional car clubs.
