Circuit

Baskerville Raceway is a 2.010 km permanent circuit at Old Beach, a northern suburb of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia, set within a natural amphitheatre that gives spectators an outstanding view of the action. The Hobart Sporting Car Club set out to build Tasmania's first permanent venue in 1954, securing land from Calvin Morrisby on a hundred-year peppercorn lease and naming a corner in his honour. The circuit was officially opened on 9 February 1958 by Tasmanian Premier Robert Cosgrove before an estimated 20,000 spectators, and has run continuously ever since, making it the second-oldest continuously operating motor racing venue in Australia after Mount Panorama. Early facilities were basic, little more than an asphalt ribbon around a grass paddock, but gradual improvements followed, aided by infrastructure salvaged from the closed Longford circuit including the distinctive Donald Gorringe Bridge. The club has never pursued top-level touring car racing, focusing instead on club and state competition, though it has hosted national sports sedan and motorcycle championships over the years. Motorsports Tasmania took over operations in 2000, bringing financial stability, and a major resurfacing was completed in 2017. The circuit has carried naming-rights sponsors over time, first Pepsi Max and since late 2023 Tasmanian firm Bulk Nutrients. Today it hosts the Tasmanian Super Series, the Baskerville Historics, drift events and the Baskerville 2-Hour Motorcycle Race.
