Hill Climb

Barbon Manor Speed Hill Climb is a private-estate hillclimb near Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, England, run up the driveway of Barbon Manor, a Victorian shooting lodge. The course measures 738 yards (about 675 metres) and climbs roughly 61 metres up the side of Barbon Fell, making it one of the shortest venues used by the British Hill Climb Championship outside the Channel Islands and among the fastest in the country. Competition began with an evening event for cars and motorcycles in 1950, organised by the Westmorland Motor Club, which was founded in 1910. A dedicated car event followed in 1951 and a motorcycle event in 1960, and both later became rounds of their respective national hillclimb championships. The Westmorland Motor Club continued to run the meetings until 2012; since 2013 the car events have been organised by Barbon Hillclimb Ltd, a joint venture between Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club and Liverpool Motor Club, while the motorcycle hillclimb continues under the Westmorland club. Jos Goodyear set the outright course record of 20.08 seconds in 2015.
