Circuit

The Bangsaen Street Circuit runs through the streets of the seaside resort town of Bang Saen in Chonburi province on Thailand's eastern Gulf coast. First raced in 2007 under the Three Crowns organisation, it is a relatively modern creation whose twisty character harks back to an earlier era of street racing, drawing comparisons with Macau rather than Singapore. The course quickly grew from a handful of local races into the end-of-season Bangsaen Speed Festival, a centrepiece of the Thailand Super Series calendar. In 2014 the organisers commissioned consultant Simon Gardini and UK firm Apex Circuit Design to upgrade the track toward FIA Grade 3 homologation, extending run-off, replacing stone walls with safety barriers and improving facilities. The improved circuit, delayed by a national period of mourning, was fully used from 2017. Over the years it has hosted TCR Asia and TCR Thailand, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, various local touring car categories and Super Pickup truck racing. The circuit held FIA Grade 3 certification, although as of 2023 it no longer holds that status. Set close to the beach in the northern part of the town, it comes alive each year for the festival weekend.
