Circuit

Balaton Park Circuit is a permanent motor racing facility near Balatonfokajar in Hungary, set in the popular lakeside tourist region around Lake Balaton roughly 85 to 90 km southwest of Budapest. It is Hungary's second major international circuit after the Hungaroring, and it grew out of plans that followed an earlier project abandoned during the late-2000s financial crisis. Designed by Hungarian engineer Ferenc Gulacsi around the goals of safety, driver challenge and sustainability, the circuit opened in May 2023. Its car configuration runs to just over 4.1 km across 16 corners, while a slightly altered motorcycle layout of about 4.075 km was prepared to meet two-wheeled safety requirements. After resurfacing and the addition of TecPro barriers and extended run-off areas, the venue earned FIM Grade A homologation. That upgrade brought top-level motorcycle racing to the circuit, with both MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship appearing from 2025 under a long-term arrangement. Permanent grandstands seat around 10,000 spectators, with temporary stands able to lift total capacity towards 120,000. An on-site four-star hotel of 145 rooms overlooks the track, alongside extensive pit garages and modern race-control facilities. The circuit was also built with broader international motorsport ambitions in mind. Its early calendar included Porsche anniversary celebrations and a Czech Formula 4 round before the motorcycle championships arrived.
