The Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini at El Pinar, in Uruguay's Canelones Department roughly 30 km east of Montevideo, is the country's most important racing circuit and the home of AUVO (Asociación Uruguaya de Volantes), the national racing association that owns and operates it. Built in 1956 and inaugurated on 14 October that year, its opening event was a Formula Libre meeting held in honour of guest of honour Juan Manuel Fangio. From 1957 it staged the 6 Hours of El Pinar, which grew into one of South America's leading endurance races. Originally a roughly triangular perimeter course with infield variations, the track was heavily rebuilt in the mid-1970s and re-inaugurated in 1975, with later changes adding the faster 'Gota de Agua' curve at the end of the 1990s. A 2017 Hermann Tilke-advised extension on adjacent land produced a dozen layout combinations, including the 'Beco' corner named after Uruguayan racer Albérico Passadore. Its proximity to Montevideo and position between Argentina and Brazil have long made it a regional hub, drawing Codasur Formula 2, F3 Sudamericana, TC2000 and the South American Super Touring Car Championship over the years. It currently hosts the TCR South America Touring Car Championship and national championships, and was extended to an FIA Grade 2-capable layout to stage the TCR World Tour in 2023–2024 and a Stock Car Pro Series round in 2024.
