Circuit
Ascari Race Resort is an exclusive private members' circuit set among the Andalusian mountains near Ronda, in Spain's Province of Malaga. It was conceived, designed and funded by Dutch entrepreneur and racing driver Klaas Zwaart, who made his fortune in the oil industry and later bought the British sportscar maker Ascari, named after Alberto Ascari. Construction began in 2000 after Zwaart settled on southern Spain for its climate, scenery and accessibility, and the circuit opened in 2002. Rather than copy a single track, Zwaart laid out the course using the natural contours of the land and wove in echoes of celebrated corners from around the world, including sections reminiscent of the Nurburgring Karussell, Spa's Eau Rouge, Brands Hatch's Paddock Hill Bend and an American-style banked turn. The result is a long, demanding lap with frequent elevation and camber changes where the fastest cars can briefly run a wheel or two airborne. Membership is deliberately costly, reinforcing the resort's privacy, and the site includes a hotel, spa, swimming pool and a supercar storage facility capable of holding hundreds of vehicles. Beyond member track days the venue hosts race schools, corporate days and one-off events, and has been used for high-profile launches by the likes of Ducati and Sony. Access is strictly controlled, keeping the resort shielded from the public and the press.
