Indy NXT by Firestone is a developmental racing series for drivers aspiring to compete in IndyCar Series. The championship was established as Indy Lights in 1986 and has since served as the premier ladder system for open-wheel racers in North America, producing numerous champions who have gone on to achieve success at the highest levels of motorsport. In its current iteration, the series features a points-based competition with races typically lasting around an hour or until a set number of laps are completed. Notable champions include Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon, both of whom went on to win multiple Indy 500s and championships in the IndyCar Series. The series is currently governed by INDYCAR.
