About Mustang Challenge

The Mustang Challenge North America is a thrilling new single-make racing series launched by Ford Performance, making its debut in 2024. Designed exclusively for the track-only Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, the championship provides a professional platform for drivers to compete in identical, purpose-built race cars. This series marks a significant expansion of Ford's motorsport presence, offering a direct pathway for Mustang enthusiasts and aspiring professionals to showcase their talent on some of North America's most iconic road courses. Sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), the Mustang Challenge operates within the prestigious IMSA paddock, often supporting major IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship events. Each race weekend typically features two 30-minute sprint races, preceded by qualifying sessions. The series emphasizes driver skill and car setup, with all competitors utilizing the same factory-built Dark Horse R, ensuring a level playing field. Points are awarded based on an IMSA-standard system, contributing to a season-long championship battle. As an inaugural series, the Mustang Challenge is currently establishing its legacy. While it is too early to name past champions, the series is quickly gaining traction, attracting a strong field of competitors eager to be part of its foundational years. It serves as a vital component of Ford's global motorsport strategy, reinforcing the Mustang's iconic status as a performance vehicle both on and off the track, and is expected to grow in prominence within the North American sports car racing landscape.
