2026 · 12 of 12About IMSA
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is North America's premier sports car endurance racing series, sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). Unlike Formula 1, several classes of car race on track at the same time: purpose-built prototypes (the top GTP hybrid class and the LMP2 class) alongside GT cars based on road-going models from manufacturers such as Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Corvette and Lamborghini (GTD Pro and GTD). Each car is shared by a team of drivers who take turns behind the wheel, and races range from sprints of under three hours to endurance classics such as the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Championships are awarded for each class, covering drivers, teams and manufacturers.
