About GT4 Australia

The GT4 Australia Series is a premier national championship dedicated to SRO GT4-class sports cars, bringing high-performance, production-based racing to circuits across Australia. While GT4 machinery had previously featured within the GT World Challenge Australia grid, the GT4 Australia Series officially launched as a standalone championship in 2023, providing a dedicated platform for these popular and competitive cars. Promoted by the SRO Motorsports Group, the series runs alongside GT World Challenge Australia as part of the exciting "GT Festival" weekends, offering a comprehensive motorsport experience for fans and competitors alike. The championship typically features two sprint races per event, each lasting approximately 30-40 minutes. Races often see a mix of professional and amateur drivers competing in various classes, including Pro-Am and Am-Am pairings, fostering a diverse and accessible grid. The points system generally follows a standard FIA-style structure, rewarding top finishers in each race and class, contributing to a season-long battle for championship honours. The series emphasizes close, fair competition, with strict technical regulations ensuring parity among the diverse range of manufacturers represented, including Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, BMW, McLaren, and more. In its inaugural 2023 season, the series crowned its first champions, with Shane Smollen and Justin Ruggier taking the outright Pro-Am title, and Mark Griffith securing the Am championship. The GT4 Australia Series is sanctioned by Motorsport Australia, the national governing body for motorsport, ensuring adherence to national and international sporting codes. With strong manufacturer support and a growing competitor base, GT4 Australia is establishing itself as a vital component of the Australian motorsport landscape, offering a clear pathway for drivers and teams within the global GT racing pyramid.
